Im Back BABY!
ok so i am back from the dark continent and let me just say first of all Thank God for America! we dont have to wonder when the power is going to go out or that we might get something from drinking tap water. i really liked kenya. Nairobi was pretty wild, i have never seen so many black people before in my life, stacey even made a comment like "babe youve never seen so many black people have you?" but the people were AMAZING! so nice and respectful and hospitable, they remember your name and i LOVED the Masi people. Safari was incredible we will email you pictures if you want i dont have time to post them all on here. We saw the Big 5 (lion, elephant, cheetah, rhino, water buffalo) the only thing we didnt see was a Leopard. Erin we took plenty of Elephant pictures for you. we stayed at Kitchwa Tembo http://www.kichwatembo.com/kichwatembo-camp/default.htm at the Bateleur camp, Free upgrades ROCK! then after the safari stacey and her mom came home and i went to Burundi with staceys dad. can i just say that burundi is one tore up country from the war between the hutus and the tutsis. plus it was hot as hell. that country looks like the places you see on the Feed the Children commercials, it was heartbreaking. and speaking of feeding children here is what i saw and heard FIRST HAND about the one campaign. i asked 10 random people about the one campaign and NOT ONE had heard of it. i saw bumper stickers and t-shirts that said "let africa take care of africa" i wish i had bought one. the reason the one campaign isnt working is because the governments over there are corrupt. there is food and grain rotting on the docks and ports, and warehouses cause the governments refuse to give it out. i saw 2 UN planes stuck in a hangar with supplies just sitting there. and if they choose to give it out there are no passable roads in order to get it to the people who need it most. some countries are giving out food to the poor people and when the people go to get the food the government siezes their land and says that its been vacated so now the people are homeless and hungry. so ive said it before and ill say it again, unless the governments have sweeping change then the one campaign and all others like it are going to fail. but if it makes you feel better to piss your money away then tell people how much you are doing and go to U2 concerts and sway and sing and praise Bono for giving away money he will never EVER need then by all means go. as for me, ill give money to a missionary who is actually doing something to help better the peoples lives in Africa.
